Greg Lewis was appointed New Zealand Ambassador to Egypt in January 2019. He is also Ambassador to Algeria, Lebanon, Libya, Tunisia and New Zealand’s Special Representative to the Palestinian Authority.
Greg is a career diplomat. In Wellington, Greg has worked on regional and bilateral issues within the Americas and South East Asia as well as in international security. Most recently he was the Lead Adviser in the Protocol Division.
He has had several offshore assignments in the Middle East and Africa region, including twice to both Riyadh and Cairo. This is Greg’s third posting to Egypt.
Greg graduated from the University of Otago with a Masters of Bioethics and Health Law, Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science (Microbiology). He was admitted to the New Zealand Bar in 2001. In 2018 he was appointed as a Justice of the Peace.
Prior to joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Greg worked as a solicitor for three years. Greg speaks Arabic and Te Reo Māori.
