In the midst of a global financial crisis, with falling
stock markets, struggling economies and a high demand for
a financial rescue plan. Egypt launched a three day
conference from November 16th- 18th, 2008. The conference
aim and main mission was to find a rescue package for the
textile and garment industry. The conference became
commonly known as “Agadir “.
With a guest and VIP list that included the who’s who of
the Textile and Garment industry from Egypt, Jordan,
Morocco and Tunis, there was no escape that Agadir was
going to receive a lot of attention, besides the impact
that it was going to leave behind. The Fairmont Tower and
in specific the Rock Canyon Ballroom was the hub of the
signing of the Arab Mediterranean Free Trade Agreement
between the member countries which included: Egypt,
Jordan, Morocco and Tunis.
